Porridge-making Championships!

Ah... in breakfast news...

The annual world porridge-making championships have named their winners this Sunday with the champion Maria Soep of Roineabhal Country House, Kilchrenan, Taynuilt (Scottish Highlands) grabbing the coveted Golden Spurtle prize.

So how does one cook the world's best porridge?

Apparently, you add whiskey to traditional organically grown pinhead oatmeal. :) Yummy.

"The most spartan of traditionalists... maintain it should only ever be mixed in a clockwise direction using the right hand, so as not to invoke the Devil. Others consider it sacrilege to mix with anything other than the spurtle - a straight, wooden stick without a moulded end. The mere mention of a microwave or Pyrex dish, meanwhile, is likely to cause a riot. It is all stirring stuff, according to Mr Bruce [the Championships' organizer]"

Ummmm, Scottish oatmeal! Cooked all night in a slow oven. Just the thing before taking on the misty mountains. And keeps you warm under your kilt.
