Açai Fruit Smoothie

I do love a frozen treat for breakfast. And when that frozen treat tastes like chocolate and berries, packs a "superfood" punch and wakes you up, all the better.

Deep in the Amazon rain forest grows a berry that is assumed to be one of the most nutrient rich foods in the entire world - the Açaí (ah-sigh-ee). It is crammed with more anti-oxidants than blueberries or pomegranates, and has healthy omega-3 oils, protein and dietary fiber. Good for your skin, heart, body and brain. And now, through the wonder of modern food distribution, I found it in the freezer section of the NYC Union Square Whole Foods.

I would love to find an original recipe that Amazon tribes have eaten for centuries, but for now, I will have to console myself with a simple frozen slushy experiment:

Ingredients
frozen açai
organic peach
pineapple

Blend together in a blender or food processor. Salivate, serve, eat and enjoy. :)

My Other Frozen Concoctions
Watermelon Slushy
Mystère de Chocolat

I love açai berries - nutritious, delicious, and DEFINITELY a great addition to smoothies (like your wonderful concoction - yum!)

Hi there! I'm brazilian and the brazilian way of having Açaí follows:

Add these to the mixer:

- 5 scoops of Açaí pulp or 1 frozen sachet of Açaí
- 90ml of Guaraná syrup
- A glass half-full of fresh water

Mix it up in the mixer for no longer than 1 minute. Serve with whatever you like: fruits, muesli (granola) or nuts.

If preparing with Açaí pulp from the bucket, add 5 ice cubes instead of half a glass of fresh water, if you like a cold breakfast.

Not sure how the natives do in the Amazon, but this is how we have it in Brazil!

Enjoy!

Hi, i'm Franz from Belém ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bel%C3%A9m ), origin of the Açaí-plants. I have this palm-tree beside my house.

The natives usually eat it pure with coarse-grained cassava flour. Often they have it as side-dish with fish from the charcoal grill or put fried jerked beef in a more soupy preparation.

Don't hesitate to contact me for more information about regional questions.
